Press reviews:
What seems to start as the story of a multi-day cycling tour through Flanders (with the famous hills from the Flemish classics) develops into a compelling story of interpersonal relationships. The Belgian issues (the language struggle, Dutroux, the multiple escape from the most heavily guarded prison) also play a role in the background. In this debut novel, physicist, educator and playwright De Jonghe creates a beautiful novel, told from the perspective of the four cycling athletes and the two accompanying women. As such, it is also a document of its time and offers a picture of contemporary Belgian society. The novel is easy to read and excellently written. It makes one look forward to this author's next work.

Anyone who is a bit familiar with the world of recreational cyclists will find this book very recognizable and will often have to smile.

A very enjoyable psychological novel with a truly Flemish background: cycling, the language struggle and Dutroux. It is well put together. The shifting narrative perspective works especially well here, because De Jonghe can let the characters come through more clearly through their reactions to one another.
Excellent debut.
